Craft Research and Documentation
The First Step: Listen & Learn
Gaatha’s Research & Archive initiative is a living, growing record of India’s intangible heritage where traditional knowledge, artisanal skills, and cultural practices are meticulously documented, visually narrated, and made accessible for generations to come. Through immersive storytelling, craft mapping, and rich digital visualization, we not only preserve the past but also spotlight artisan ingenuity, design-led interventions, and the commercial evolution of heritage practices. As we archive, we also build an evolving network of craft communities, researchers, and seekers; all woven together by a shared commitment to honour, celebrate, and co-create India’s diverse craft legacy.

First Voice, Not Just First-Hand
Stories are told from within communities, in their original vernaculars.

Every craft is situated within its cultural, ecological, and social context.
Continuously Evolving Archives
Documentation isn’t static; it evolves with interaction and discoveries.
Co-authored and verified by subject experts
The artisan is the narrator, the experts are the editors, and we are the medium.
